A key lesson in life is learning to go beyond our comfort zones in a healthy way.

When trying new things, it is important we be open and willing to push these comfort zones, so why not start small? Baby steps are a great way to progress towards any and all sizes of change but there is no need to worry.

The only change you will be making today is the address typed into your Google Maps. Listed below are a few of my favorite and reasonably priced cafes and restaurants in what I consider to be my second home: Newport Beach. Hope you enjoy!

1. Ciao Balboa: Balboa Island, Newport Beach

Located on Balboa Island in Newport Beach, Cia Balboa is known for its delicious and authentic Italian cuisine ranging from traditional dishes like Spaghetti Carbonara to favorites like Vodka Gnocchi. Having been raised in an Italian kitchen where learning the different types of pasta is as important as learning your ABC’s, I know my Italian dishes well and let me tell you, Ciao Balboa does too. I ordered the Vodka Gnocchi and when I tell you that meal was gone in three minutes, that meal was gone in three minutes. One of the tastiest and most filling meals I have had in such a long time, and I eat A LOT of pasta. Not only is the food delicious, but the dining both inside and outdoors is the perfect medium between family dining and getting together with friends for a good laugh. If you’re looking for an escape to Europe, but cannot venture that far, Ciao Balboa is a happy (and affordable) medium for the Italian experience! Between our two pasta dishes, the Penne Alla Vodka and Vodka Gnocchi, the total came out to be only $33, which if you ask me is totally worth it seeing as a good majority of Italian dishes start at $20 or more. If you decide to go, I suggest ordering the Vodka Gnocchi and Tiramisu!

2. Vacancy Coffee: W Coast Highway, Newport Beach

Working in a coffee shop, my craving for coffee has only grown. When I’m looking to wake up at 6am and drive for a cup of coffee to keep my hands warm while watching the sky wake, Vacancy Coffee is the place I want to be. Between delicious drinks like the Maple Iced Latte to the Activated Charcoal Latte and medium-dark roast coffee, Vacancy Coffee provides the perfect cup of joe and a scenic view to pick it up. Located along Pacific Coast Highway in Newport Beach, Vacancy Coffee is a cozy spot for anyone and everyone to grab a cup of coffee and walk across the street to watch the waves. Not only is the convenience of Vacancy Coffee's PCH location great, but it's prices too! Most coffee shop orders range from around $6-$7 or more while Vacancy Coffee's menu is priced at $6 or less.

3. Ho Sum Bistro: Newport Blvd, Newport Beach

If you’re looking for Asian Cuisine inspired by the coasts, no need to look further. Ho Sum Bistro located along Newport Boulevard in Newport Beach offers some of the tastiest Asian Coastal Cuisine. Don’t be fooled by Ho Sum Bistro’s hole in the wall placement, this restaurant is one of the busiest in Newport Beach. With menu choices ranging from Dim Sum and Noodles to specialties like Mu Shu and Chinese Pepper Chicken, you are sure to have a variety of options and affordable prices. One of the many things I love about Ho Sum Bistro are their portion options, whether you are looking for a filling meal or light snack, o Sum Bistro offers half or full orders of their dishes! The restaurant also provides a casual dining style for all customers, whether that be dining with friends, family, a significant other or all of the above. And whether you’re looking for an in person dining experience or tasty meal to bring home, this is the spot for you. If you dine here, be sure to order the Barbecued Pork Lo Mein and Pot Stickers!

4. Wild Taco: Newport Blvd, Newport Beach

If you’re looking for modern Mexican eats with a nautical-themed tavern, this is the place for you. From traditional tacos to their deluxe burritos, Wild Taco offers not only a good time, but quality-tasting food. The best part about any restaurant is when their menu serves all preferences, and that is exactly why Wild Taco will forever be my favorite! Every customer is different when it comes to what they eat, therefore it is important to check that restaurants have various options when dining with friends, family, a significant other or all of the above! Wild Taco does a great job of offering delicious vegetarian and vegan options for all to enjoy! If you dine at Wild Taco, be sure to order the Grilled Shrimp tacos and the Kale Queso Fresco tacos!
